| Right-of-Way (R/W) Designation |
The Right of Way (R/W) Certification is a professional
designation granted to IRWA members who have achieved
professional status through experience, education,
and examination in a specific discipline. Earning
this certification demonstrates an unparalleled
achievement in a single discipline and reinforces
a standard of excellence in services provided to
the public. Members may only be qualified in two
disciplines before being required to advance to
the SR/WA desgination program for multiple disciplines.
Qualified Disciplines are:
Appraisal - (R/W-AC)
Asset/Property Management - (R/W-AMC)
Environmental - (R/W-EC)
Negotiation/Acquisition - (R/W-NAC)
Relocation Assistance - (R/W-RAC)

Right of Way Professional, Generalist
In addition, IR/WA now offers a 4-tier program towards SR/WA designation utilizing a general skills and
knowledge approach. This is called the Right of Way Professional Generalist Career Path (vs Specialist).
Certifications are as follows:
Right of Way Agent - (RWA)
Associate Right of Way Professional - (ARWP)
Right of Way Professional - (RWP)
Senior Right of Way Professional - (SR/WA)

Registration Process - Summary

1. Download a Candidacy Application form: See Forms Section
2. Complete the application and submit, with the
application fee, to our Chapter Professional Development
Committee (PDC) Chair.
3. Upon approval, you will receive a confirmation
letter with a Candidacy Registration number from
International Headquarters. You will then have 5-years
to complete the program.
Steps to R/W Designation
1. Membership: Member in good standing with the
International Right Of Way Association
2. Experience: Minimum 2-years of qualifying right-of-way
experience in discipline
3. Coursework: Complete all Core Courses required,
as detailed in Program Brochure above
