SR/WA Recertification Information

Members holding the SR/WA Designation must re-certify every five (5) years. To re-certify, the member must accumulate the required credit hours within a period of no more than 5-years from the date of designation receipt or from the date of previous recertification.

If an application is approved within the 12-months prior to the due date, the next recertification date will not change (remains in the same month regardless of approval date of recertification). If an application is approved more than 12-months prior to the due date, the next recertification date will change and will be 5-years from exact date of approval.

Examples

SR/WA Designation Received: January 1, 1999 -- Recertification due: January 1, 2004

Recertification Submitted "within" 12-months of Due Date -- Application approved
March 1, 2003 with next recertification due January 1, 2009 (recertification date unchanged)

Recertification Submitted "prior" to 12-months of Due Date -- Application approved
March 1, 2002 with next recertification due March 1, 2007 (recertification date changed)

Requirements

Recertification requirements consist of 75-hours of continuing education courses or seminars approved for credit by IRWA, but at least 24 of the required hours must be earned by course attendance as a student. SR/WA designees can also receive 16-hours of recertification credit for attending IRWA's International Education Seminar.

With the exception of retired SR/WA designees, all members holding the SR/WA designation must successfully complete IRWA Course 103 (Ethics) or Course 104 (Standards of Practice) during the appropriate 5-year cycle. Additionally, Appraisal Specialists must complete an appropriate course on the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (IRWA Course 406).

SR/WA designees who filed for candidacy prior to January 1, 1980 and retired SR/WA members are exempt from the recertification requirement. However, voluntary compliance with the recertification requirements of all SR/WA designees is encouraged as a part of their professional growth and representation of the profession.

Important Information

1) Students taking an IRWA class for recertification credit are not required to take the course exam. However, students taking an IRWA class for Continuing Education (CE), or other type of credit, for license renewal or other purposes are required to take the course exam.

2) Failure to pay all appropriate dues after 6-months will result in the loss of the member's designation.
