Description:
Selected candidate will work in accordance with the goals & objectives of ALWT and its Desert Rivers Initiative Program to implement water transactions as part of the Trust's land and water conservation work. --
Candidate will lead water transaction projects and conduct extensive water rights due diligence, planning, and outreach to secure water for riparian and aquatic habitat protection and sustainable farming and ranching. Candidate will also
assist in all other areas of the Trust's land and water conservation work to include developing and strengthening partnerships in order to further our mission and to assist in developing appropriate policy tools for land and water conservation. Candidate will
work with the Executive Director to support the Trust's efforts to integrate these agreements into its conservation planning and acquisitions by performing key responsibilities, and coordinate identified projects to completion consistent with our conservation strategy and in concert with Trust team members.
Key Responsibilities:
Implement water transactions program; Extensive water rights due diligence & planning; Strengthen & develop partnerships with landowners, government agencies, other conservation organizations;
Complete water resource & riparian habitat conservation acquisition projects; Develop appropriate materials for community meetings & workshops; Coordinate and make presentations at stakeholder outreach/ education meetings & workshops;
Draft grant proposals, reports to foundation and agency grant administrators; Assist with all other areas of the Trust's land and water program.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Water Resources, Landscape Architecture, Planning, Geography or related field. Master's degree predferred. -
Experience of 10+ years in a related field, with knowledge or real estate transactions and an interest in land/water conservation preferred. -
Must be able and willing to travel, meet with landowners off-site, and work at a desk operating a computer. Majority of hours will occur 8am-5pm weekdays but some evening and weekend meetings/events may occur. Travel is
anticipated 20% of the time, primarily throughout Arizona.
Candidate shall have: Superior project management skills; Knowledge of Arizona water policy required, and knowledge of AZ landscape, ecology, and conservation history a plus;
Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively on complex and fast-paced projects involving multiple stakeholders, including landowners, public land managers, academic institutions, and conservation & community based organizations;
Strong group & meeting facilitation experience; Excellent verbal & written communication skills, and ability to effectively converse with rural & urban landowners, agency staff, academics, elected officials, and local leaders;
Proven ability to write, secure, and administer grants, especially with partners and contracts with consultants; Proven ability to work both independently and within a strong team-oriented environment.
